Some Statistics...

Rural Roadway Fatalities

Rural Intersection Accident Problem

Rural Roadway Fatalities

  •  In 2022, the fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled was 1.5 times higher in rural areas than in urban areas.
  • Additionally, from 2017 to 2021, over 83,000 people died on rural roadways; this accounts for 43 percent of all roadway deaths despite only 20 percent of the U.S. population residing in these areas, according to the - US Department of Transportation.

Driving Reaction Time

Rural Intersection Accident Problem

Rural Roadway Fatalities

  • Reaction time is established as the perception of a threat, plus the amount of time it takes to make the decision and move your foot to the brake – the NHTSA estimates that this is 1.5 seconds. - Gerson & Schwartz Accident & Injury Attorneys.
  • Depending on the vehicles speed, it may not be enough to come to a complete stop, but it is enough time to avoid a collision at an intersection.
  • It would take a car traveling at 50 mph approximately 2.05 seconds to travel 150 feet

Rural Intersection Accident Problem

Rural Intersection Accident Problem

Rural Intersection Accident Problem

  •  In 2008 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicated that 56 percent of the 37,261 fatalities on U.S. roadways occurred in rural areas. This figure is disproportionate since only 23 percent of Americans live in rural areas.
  • More than 20 percent of all traffic fatalities in the United States occur at intersections, both signalized and unsignalized.
  • More than 80 percent of rural intersection fatalities occur at unsignalized intersections. - Federal Highway Administration

Pollinator Population Decline

Pollinator Population Decline

  • A 2021 report from the DNR stated that pheasant populations had declined by 27% since 1966.

Pollinator Population Decline

Pollinator Population Decline

Pollinator Population Decline

  •  During the past 30-plus years, our nation’s pollinator populations have suffered serious losses due to invasive pests and diseases, such as mites and viral and fungal pathogens, exposure to pesticides and other chemicals, loss of habitat, loss of species and genetic diversity.
